About the Africa Rangelands Carbon & Biodiversity Programme
The Africa Rangelands Carbon & Biodiversity Programme (ARCBP) is a landscape-focused programme designed to support the restoration, conservation and sustainable development of Africa’s rangelands.
The programme brings together climate action, biodiversity conservation, sustainable land management, community participation and economic opportunities within an integrated framework.
We believe that climate solutions should also create value for the people and ecosystems that make Africa’s rangelands productive and resilient.
Our Vision
Healthy rangelands, thriving communities and protected biodiversity across Africa.
Our Approach
ARCBP takes an integrated approach to landscape development.
Rather than treating carbon, agriculture, biodiversity, water, livestock, energy and communities as separate issues, the programme looks at how they interact within the same landscape.
This enables individual projects to pursue their specific objectives while contributing to wider environmental, social and economic outcomes.
Our Programme Framework
ARCBP is structured as a Programme of Activities (PoA).
The PoA provides the umbrella framework, while individual Component Project Activities (CPAs) are developed and implemented as independent projects.
Each CPA can have its own:
- Project documentation
- Implementation arrangements
- Monitoring systems
- Carbon asset ownership
- Carbon trading arrangements
- Development pathway
At the same time, CPAs operate within the broader standards and framework of the ARCBP programme.
Our Values
