What is the Africa Rangelands Carbon & Biodiversity Programme?
ARCBP is organised as a Programme of Activities (PoA).
Think of the PoA as an umbrella that brings together a number of independently developed projects under a common programme framework.
These individual projects are known as Component Project Activities (CPAs).

Each CPA can be designed around the specific environmental, social and economic conditions of its location.
This makes it possible to develop projects at different locations while maintaining a common programme direction.
Why This Model Matters
Rangelands differ greatly from one location to another.
A ranch may have different priorities from a community landscape. One area may have greater potential for rangeland restoration, while another may have opportunities in agriculture, renewable energy, biodiversity conservation or water management.
The CPA model provides flexibility while maintaining programme-level coordination.
Independent Project Identity
Participation in the programme does not mean that every project becomes identical.
Individual CPAs retain their own project identity, documentation, carbon asset ownership and project-level implementation arrangements.
Voluntary Participation
Participation in the ARCBP PoA is voluntary and based on application.
Ranches, communities and other eligible landscapes can seek participation where their objectives align with the programme framework.
